NLSNPK participated in the International Youth Day 2024, themed "Youth as Agents of Climate Action and Sustainable Development", held at Moi Girls Secondary School, Marsabit County. The event inspired youth-led solutions to climate challenges. NLSNPK showcased projects focusing on sustainable, culturally respectful shelter improvements and environmental conservation.

NLSNPK Project Showcase

  1. Sustainable Animal Homesteads: Highlighted eco-friendly designs to replace stick-built enclosures, addressing deforestation concerns in Rendille, Samburu, Gabra, Turkana, Elmolo, Dasanach, and Borana communities.
  2. Fire-Resistant Traditional Huts: Demonstrated fireproofing methods to improve safety without compromising traditional structures, vital for fire-prone nomadic settlements.
  3. Climate-Resilient Housing Innovations: Showcased models integrating solar energy solutions and enhanced ventilation systems, reducing heat and improving livability in traditional shelters.
  4. Community Training and Capacity Building: Presented ongoing training programs for youth and local artisans on sustainable construction and tree planting to promote reforestation.

Engagement and Feedback

NLSNPK's interactive booth attracted diverse attendees, including youth, local leaders, and partners. Live demonstrations on fireproofing and sustainable building techniques engaged participants, fostering discussions about adapting the innovations in their communities.
